Best Weekend Getaway Near Chicago

If you are looking for a weekend getaway near Chicago, Anaway Place, located in Richland Center, Wisconsin is the destination for you. Formerly, Candlewood Cabins, Anaway Place is located 3.5 hours from Chicago in the Driftless Region of Southwest Wisconsin.

The Grounds & Accomodations
With seven cabins to choose from, Anaway Place is the perfect escape for couples, families or friends. The cabins are spaced apart on a beautiful secluded property surrounded by woods.We went with a group of 10 and stayed in the The Barn. The Barn is an amazing space with 4 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen, elevator, patio and outdoor fire pit. I fell in love with the decor of The Barn. I’d describe it as rustic chic style.

Reservations
It’s not easy to reserve Anaway Place as cabins book up over a year in advance. The Barn seems to be available more often because it houses a larger group rental. We booked in February 2021 for an August 2021 weekend getaway.

The Food
Being that we were a group of ten (5 couples), food was one of our main concerns! Before the trip, each couple picked a meal they would be responsible for preparing. Since we arrived on Friday evening, we made reservations at a local supper club for dinner. On Saturday, one couple was responsible preparing breakfast, my husband and I were responsible for lunch and another couple was responsible for dinner, an so on…This worked out well and divided the cost and food preparation evenly between the group.

Wineries
There are quite a few wineries in the area. We visited Wild Hills Winery. They have indoor and outdoor seating. During our visit it was storming. A tornado warning was issued and we all gathered inside to ride out the storm…not a bad place to be!

Taliesin Estate
This estate was Frank Lloyd Wrights home and studio. The 800 acres and estate offers many different tours varying in length. We did not have time to visit but I would recommend reserving in advance as tours sell out.

I would definitely come back to Anaway Place and spend more time exploring the area. It was a relaxing weekend getaway near Chicago, not too far from home!
