Boyne Mountain: A Top Midwest Ski Resort

Every winter we plan a ski trip with our kids. Whether it’s a trip out west or a weekend away skiing closer to home, it’s something we do yearly. This year, we drove 5.5 hours from Chicago to Boyne Mountain, a top Midwest ski resort.

Located in northern Michigan, Boyne Mountain is 415 acres with 12 lifts, 60 trails and plenty of terrain to choose from varying in difficulty. Listed below are some highlights of our stay:

Accommodations
There are plenty of lodging options on property to choose from including hotel rooms, condos or villas. I booked in October for a trip over New Years Eve thru Airbnb. I was lucky to rent a 3 bedroom Mountain Villa that was a short walk from the lift. This was so convenient and made it much easier to manage with the kids.

Food Preparation
Eating out on vacation gets expensive. Being a group of 8, we wanted to eat at the condo as much as possible. We accomplished this by packing a cooler full of dinners we had prepared in advance. In addition, the condo management company sent me a link to a grocery delivery service. I pre-ordered necessary groceries for breakfast and lunch. The food was delivered to our condo before check in. A little planning goes a long way when it comes to meals on vacation!

Lift Tickets & Ski Rentals
At this time, lift tickets must be reserved in advance online. Prices for lift tickets vary by day. Go online to check current rates. We reserved ski rentals online at the same time we reserved lift tickets.
Once we arrived, we headed to the Skier Services building at the base of the village. It was a quick and seamless process getting fitted for skis and picking up lift tickets.

Activities
The activities at Boyne Mountain are endless. Listed below are some activities available on property:
Tubing – There’s a tubing park on property for ages 5 and up. Cost is per hour.
Water Park – Avalanche Bay Waterpark has slides, pools and hot tubs.
Outdoor Pool – We took advantage of the outdoor heated pool and hot tub located on property at the Clock Tower Lodge. This pool is open year round for a guests.
Night Skiing – Check the calendar for select dates for night skiing, from 5pm – 9pm. A few in our group braved the cold and went night skiing.
Zipline – Starting at the top of the mountain, zipline thru the trees and over the slopes of Boyne Mountain.
Indoor/Outdoor Pool – Located at the spa in the Mountain Grand Lodge, this pool is only open for guests staying the Grand Lodge.
Other activities includes sno-go biking, fat tire snow biking, ice skating, more!

Overall, if you are skiing in the Midwest, Boyne Mountain is a good option. We were pleased with the skiing, accommodations and variety of activities. We would come back to this top Midwest ski resort.
