Want to save money when booking a place on VRBO or Airbnb? Bypass the fees when booking your next place. Over time I have learned ways to avoid VRBO service fees and Airbnb service fees. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when reserving your next place:

Look At Who Hosts the Property

Once you find a place on VRBO or Airbnb you’re interested in renting:

1. Look at who hosts the property. 
2. If the host name looks like a rental company or resort, Google search them. 
3. Search for the rental company or resort website online.
4. Find the same property you are interested in on their website.
5. Book direct and save money! I have saved $75-$100 or more booking this way. 

Why Do You Save Money Booking Direct?

By booking direct, you avoid paying the service fee that is charged by VRBO and Airbnb. While I like having the option of booking rental homes on Airbnb and VRBO, I don’t like the fees. Fees (like everything else) have increased over time. The nightly rate, cleaning fee, service fee and taxes add up. Booking direct cuts out the middle man – and the service fee.

How I Discovered This Money Saving Tip

Sometimes when reading descriptions of rentals on VRBO or Airbnb that are hosted by rental companies or resorts, it will suggest to book direct on their website. Now, I book this way with all rentals (that are hosted by a company) even if it doesn’t suggest it in the description of the property.
